Principal & Assistant Principal

Alain Camou, Principal

Greetings Las Lomitas families and welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! This marks my fifth year as Principal of Las Lomitas and and my eigth year at our wonderful school. In all, I am entering my 22nd year in education and look forward to many years to come! As Principal of Las Lomitas, I am honored to be part of a collaborative group of educators. The Las Lomitas community has been welcoming and supportive since day one and I am excited about the work ahead of us. With the encouragement of my biggest fans, my wife who is an educator in San Francisco and two children, I look to have a long and successful career with the Las Lomitas Elementary School District.

Construction will continue to move forward at Las Lomitas this year. With an expected completion date of October 31, I am truly looking forward to the completion of new construction and the added safety and beauty of our campus as a whole. This year, we will also be testing out prototype schedule. The intent of our current schedule is to provide an equitable solution to our families. I will provide opportunity for stakeholder input throughout the year.

I take this time to share with you my philosophy on education. I firmly believe that all children can reach their full potential when we recognize their unique capabilities and provide support when needed. I hold strong to the notion that learning happens in an environment where children are encouraged and allowed to take risks. This type of environment has to be built on a bedrock of trust and respect. Relationships have to be forged in order to create a safe and nurturing environment that facilitates this type of learning. In education, relationships across the board are paramount for student success. I take pride in getting to know the students, faculty, staff, parents, and community as best I can. Please stop by and say hello!

Sincerely,

Alain Camou, Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Community,

I’m looking forward to an exciting 2019-2020 school year!  Our dedicated staff and families make Las Lomitas a truly phenomenal school.  This will be my second year as Assistant Principal. I am honored to be part of this amazing community!

A bit about me: I grew up in interior Alaska.  After graduating from high school, I moved to the “Lower 48,” first to Minnesota then to Oregon.  I attended college and graduate school in Portland, OR and started my teaching career there.  My husband and I moved to the Bay Area in 2007. We love traveling, skiing and riding bikes with our two daughters, ages 5 and 8.  Our daughters and our Labrador retriever, Charlie, keep our lives filled with activity and joy!

Prior to becoming an administrator, I taught grades 2, 3, and 4.  I also served as a reading support teacher and Project Based Learning coach.    I find much fulfillment in the work I get to do with teachers, students, families and district leadership as our school’s Assistant Principal.  This year, I will continue to prioritize building trusting working relationships with students, staff and families.  Specific areas of focus for me include school safety, supporting staff and ensuring all students have equitable access to education here at Las Lomitas.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is credited with saying, “The only constant is change.”  With that in mind, we have changes to our schedule and school grounds this year.  You have likely heard many of the details about our 19-20 prototype schedule. They are posted on our school website for immediate reference.  Our campus is expanding which means changes to student drop-off and pick-up protocols too.  Please review the school’s Student and Parent Handbook for details about these procedures.  Following them will ensure the most efficient comings and goings for all of our students.

Working together, we can make this another amazing school year for our entire community. I am excited to be a part of these great efforts!

Kind Regards,

Ms. Kristen Fielding, Assistant Principal
